| Home | Forum | Credits | Articles | Media | Archived News April 14, 2006 Updated: 'Munich' officially announced for DVD May 9 It's been one of those unannounced truths for quite some time, and today, we can officially tell our readers that Steven Spielberg's "Munich" will be coming to DVD on May 9 (a mere 3 1/2 weeks away!).
As previously reported, the film will be available in both a single disc release and a two-disc edition set.
The single "Munich" DVD includes an introduction from Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg.
The Two-Disc Collector’s Edition includes additional in-depth bonus features that expose the viewer further to the film’s subject including:
· Munich: The Mission, The Team – Find out how this project came about and the challenges that were faced by the filmmakers to draw an accurate portrayal of the controversial mission. The actors share their experience getting involved portraying the five men who led the mission.
· Munich: Memories of the Event – Explore and discover the impact of the real events in Munich through documentary footage, film clips, behind-the-scenes moments and interviews with cast and crew, including Steven Spielberg.
· Munich: Portrait of an Era – Look at the re-creation of the ‘70s with production designer Rick Carter and costume designer Joanna Johnston.
· Munich: The “On Set” Experience – A moving and intricate exploration into the art and politics involved with the making of Munich.
· Munich: Editing, Sound and Music – A discussion with Steven Spielberg and his collaborators, composer John Williams and editor Michael Kahn, on the final touches that were added to Munich.
· Munich: The International Cast – A captivating look at the remarkable group of actors that appear in Munich. With over 150 speaking parts, Spielberg and his team discuss the casting of actors from all over the world.
The film will be presented in its theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 in anamorphic widescreen. Audio tracks include an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track, an English DVS Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track, and a French Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. Of course the option of three audio tracks allows you to be "audiologically promiscuous."
The film will also include English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles.
Regarding the 2-disc set of "Munich," it is currently being promoted as a "limited edition" set. Bonus materials (to be officially detailed in the near future) will be presented in 1.33:1 with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo track and English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles.
For the record, the film's single-disc edition will also be avaialble in a full frame presentation, but shame on anyone who reads this site who even gives such an abomination a sideways glance.
Pricing for "Munich" stands at a suggested retail price of $29.98 for the single disc edition, with no set price for the 2-disc set at this time.
